VIETNAM - Phu Quoc - Part 2
The next morning I was so excited to start my scuba diving certification! I met my instructor and she was so cool! A girl from Argentina and I was her only student for the day, which she said never happens so I was lucky. It was raining a bit but it was okay because we had to do some class work and watch videos first. Next was a pool session which I got to practice a bunch of diving techniques and use the gear.i was done with my first day and got some lunch and went back to rest and study my scuba book. As night crept in I wanted to see the night market again. I got some grilled corn and purple sweet potato there with a banana smoothie to finish it off. I also found a vendor selling dried out cocoa beans which were soooooo good! I made note to go back and buy some before I left. But never did following certain circumstances... I wanted to buy some fruit to have a snack but I saw the Russian guy and ran away. I did manage to buy a sugar apple which is a local fruit that looks like an artichoke but it is now my favorite fruit! I was so full and kind of uncomfortable after tonight’s feast, but I didn’t think much of it. I tried to go to sleep but for up later to get violently ill and throw up everywhere. Horrible. I was up the rest of the night sitting next to the toilet, smelling sewage. I was up until sunrise and realized I had my last day of scuba today in order to be fully certified. But I wasn’t sure I was able to make it with my stomachs feeling like this. But I pushed on and put my game face on. I didn’t eat anything because I was afraid it would stay down but I got on the bus and went to the south port with my dive group and instructor to hop on a boat that would take us to a small chain of southern islands. It was raining all morning and my stomachs was hating me. I couldn’t tell if I was sick, nervous, or excited but I was determined to finish my course. I talked to this Finnish guy the entire time on the boat to try and keep my mind occupied from my stomachs. They passed out sandwiches with meat in them but I emptied it and just ate the bread. Which made me feel a little better. We finally got to our first dive spot and had to suit up for my first ocean dive! By now I was super excited.the first dive was amazing! It was just me and my instructor and the water was warm and the moment I was 12 meters under water I was calm. I had to practice taking off my mask and respirator underwater which was scarey but I passed! I spent 45 minutes underwater which was surreal! I saw so many fish and colorful coral. I love diving. The group got out and headed to the next dive spot called Lighthouse because the island had a tower of rocks on it that looked like a lighthouse. The second dive was super cool because I saw clear shrimp and I got to swim through an underwater tunnel! After our dive the last thing I had to do was swim 2 laps around the boat to past the swim test. YAY! Now I am scuba dive certified which is so cool and to be honest I will definitly do this in the future all the time! I love the water. When the boat headed back to port we had lunch and I had some beer to celebrate but that did not set wel with my stomachs so I went upstairs to take a nap on the roof of the boat. It was sunny by now and so nice out. I’m glad I powered through my sickness to do this trip. On the bus back to town the Finnish guy told me about all the places to go see in Vietnam and all the tips I should know which was really cool. The whole dive group wanted to get drinks that night to celebrate even more but I really didn’t feel good and all I did was buy saltine crackers and gingerale and chilled I’m the hostel.
