VIETNAM - Phu Quoc - Part 3
It was another day and I woke up feeling very sick still, but it was my last day on the island so I didn’t want it to go to waste. Also it was sunny finally! So after breakfast I rented a motor bike for just $6! So cool. So I set out to the southern part of the island first to a beach called Sao. The ride was so nice and not a lot of cars on the road. I took a turn onto a dirt road that led me to the entrance of the beach, which was through a resort. The beach was a lot quieter and peaceful. Some trash in the areas not run by resorts but other than that it was breathtaking. I collected some shells and took some pictures and headed off on my motor bike. I went off on some dirt roads to try and find a hidden Buddhist temple but I just ended up going off roasting, which was still fun. And in one of these off road towns I had my first experience with speaking vietnamese and actually understanding it! I turned around and started up north to try and find some waterfalls inland. I just kept driving and then I realized I had reached the National Park up on the far north part of the island, which is twice as far away from the waterfalls. Didn’t mind getting lost though, the drive was so peaceful in the countryside. With music in my ears I was soaking up life to the fullest. I headed back down to the center of the island to try and find the waterfalls and finally did. Took a while but I hiked up to the top waterfall and jumped in, felt so nice after sitting on the bike the whole day. Little did I realize half my body was red with sunburn. Oops. As I was walking along the river I started to here loud music, so I followed t. And I came across a group of people in the forest having a karaoke session with a portable speaker. They asked me to join in but I refused. So weird. Next bike task was to find the northern beaches that were nice. But resorts dominated them all so I didn’t go. I kept driving and driving to the sound of my music and a smile on my face. I felt so free. The sun was setting and all I could do was soak up the moment and sing my heart out! I finally got back to town and bought myself a pina colada at the sunset bar, then realized I had to drive the motor bike back. Oops again. But I managed, also I left the keys in the ignition at the bar. Triple oops. I got ready to go out to have dinner, and I had the best steamed buns filled with duck meat. I ordered 3 of them because I just couldn’t get enough. If you ever find yourself on the island go to the Saigonese Eatery! Although on my walk back to the hostel I threw up in the bushes. Such a good meal gone to waste. I went to bed early that night because I was so sick and sunburned. Woke up early the next day and got a street sandwich to go and headed to the airport. Then realized I left my passport at the hostel... oops. But I went back and got on my plane to Hanoi just in time! Fell in love with the island, it was just a bummer I got sick. And i also forgot to buy my cocoa beans :( oops. Off to the capital now!
