THAILAND - Phi Phi Island - Part 3
The next morning we had arrangements to go rock climbing around 1, but we time before to kill so we heard there was a nice beach on the other side of the island that was only a 20 minute hike. We packed our little daypacks and set out. The walk through town was a maze and we got a little lost. We were looking for the Tsunami Village but could not find any signs leading to it. Finally we asked a local fruit stand lady which way to go and she pointed towards this big road headed uphill. Finding the road took 20 minutes in itself, but I wasn't worried yet about time because we started walking early and I was almost sure we would be back in time for rock climbing. But oh how I was wrong... The hill we had to climb seemed like forever, it was super steep and it was starting to get hot as well. it took us about 45 minutes to get to the top and then we had to go another 45 minutes down a very steep hill as well. While we were walking we saw a huge reservoir of water where I think is where the island get all of its water. Around this area was a huge construction site as well which looked like a big resort was going to be built soon. Its sad that the most secluded part of the island was already being built up. I can only imagine what the next few years will bring for this island. We reached the last part of the walk which turned into a dirt path and we could see the white sand beach in the distance below us. Out of the jungle came a little kitten meowing at us though. It followed us all the way to the beach and kept meowing and brushing up against us. It was the friendliest cat ever, I tried to give it some water or food but all it wanted was attention, which was strange. Once Monica and I stepped onto the beach it turned away and disappeared into the jungle. The beach was super nice and calm. No drunks, no music, no people. Just quiet. Only a few families down the beach but other than that it was peaceful. We sat in the clean water and picked up some trash and looked for some shells. but we could only stay a little bit until we had to head back for rock climbing. It took us way longer than we expected. Only 45 minutes on the beach and then we had to go up the gigantic mountain. The kitten encouraged us on the way up and then we reached the top where we saw signs for the viewpoint! There was apparently access from the other side of the island and if we cut across here we could make it to rock climbing possibly! Through the jungle we trekked and only to find out it would be a long sweaty journey to reach the point. Along the way we bought a papaya to eat once we got to the top because we were starving. I packed a peanut butter and banana sandwich luckily. At the top we had to pay the entrance fee because we had no trash with us. But we found a nice rock to sit on and enjoy our papaya and sandwich. I forgot to check the time but it was 12:50... no way we would make it for rock climbing at this point. Tired from the huge mob we did, Monica and I decided a rest day would be good to recover from Phi Phi's adventures so far. We marched back to the secret path to swing beach and relaxed on the private beach to ourselves for the rest of the day. We made instruments out of coconut shells, made music, made rock sculptures, and collected sea shells. I sat down in the sand but only to be bitten in the ass by sand mites! We talked about life and sat on the swing until dusk. Island life was sweet and definitely was something special of its own. My bond with Monica definitely grew stronger this day which was lovely. Once dusk hit the bar music turned on and we could hear it from our private beach. This was the signal to head back into town and go get some grub for dinner. During our walk in the morning we made note of some good looking restaurant with hummus and healthy food to cleanse our soul of our sins. We took a shower and got dressed up a little bit for a little date night. Once we started walking it was pouring rain! But instead hiding and retreating to our bungalow we embraced the rain and started running through the streets laughing and getting absolutely soaked. This was a great memory. We then got to our restaurant and sat down soaking wet giggling to each other. We ordered hummus wraps and tuna salads. The food was delicious and we walked back through town to get a beer and watch some more fire dancing. I was in the mood to really dance but Monica didn't look so hot... We saw bull riding in the bar and then decided to head back home. We were back early to go to sleep which was nice. Only for a little while until I woke up to Monica puking her brains out in the bathroom... Uh oh....
