THAILAND - Koh Phayam - Part 1
So we woke up bright and early for our last morning session of yoga, which to say was super hard because we were still exhausted and sore form the previous days. Also my wrists were sore from doing yoga so often so I had to make fists to not bend them, I may have looked a little weird during this class. Also looking at Moni made me have a laughing attack which was hard to hold back in a silent class. After we had breakfast outside in the sunshine with rice porridge and stir-fry. Although our time here was short, it was very peaceful and beautiful staying in the jungle. Before we left we paid our tiny bill of taxi rides and merchandise we bought at their local handmade store. It was amazing that we got to stay at this place completely free since Moni's family had the good hook up. We also bought their homemade peanut butter which was sooooo good! They were even so kind enough to give us the recipe for it! I bought some herbal sniffing tube to clear your sinuses. We loaded our bags into the taxi and shared it with this older lady who wouldn't leave us alone about traveling to the pier together. She bothered us since last night about the exact time we would leave and Moni and I had no idea and she wouldn't take that for an answer. In the taxi ride she kept nervously looking at us to make sure we weren't trying to speak to her or something. I just put my headphones in and closed my eyes since she was making me so anxious. We finally got to the pier and this is where we parted ways with the old lady... thank god. It was very hot but we bought our tickets for the fast boat to our next island called Koh Phayam. The boat was leaving in 30 minutes so I had time to go into town and search for an ATM to finally check if my credit card was able to work as my new debit card. This way I wouldn't have to use Moni's money all the time. I ran across the street to the first one I saw and IT WORKED! I HAVE MONEY!!! I got out as much as I could since on the island we were going to had no ATM's on it. I came back to the pier with a smile on my face and Moni knew it finally worked. While we waited we snacked on our homemade nuts bag and then we soon were herded up to start loading into the small speed boat. We sat down and put our life vest on and this is where the heat started to get unbearable. There was no wind blowing in the boat and we just sat waiting for them to start the engine and start going. About 10 minutes later the did and by this time I was dripping sweat. But we then stopped at the next pier over where more people awaited to get on our boat. Once the people started loading on it got really crowded. I was squished between a fat man and Moni. His sweat joined forces with mine. To numb the pain of discomfort I put my headphones in and stared off into the distance watching Ranong disappear. We would soon arrive at the pier of Koh Phayam. This island was known for being very quiet and isolated, which was just what Moni and I wanted, to just lay on the beach. We got off the boat and waited for our bags to come off as well. The pier was quiet and it was hot. As soon as we got our bags we started walking to our bungalow about 10 minutes away. There were no big roads on this island and most people got around by motorbike or bicycle. The walk was rough. I followed Moni close behind and we didn't even speak because we were so focused on just getting out of the sun and into our bathing suits. Our hotel was called Sabai Sabai which means "chill chill" in Thai. Perfect. The people that owned the hotel were from Europe so they spoke english well. The sand was so hot you couldn't walk on it barefoot. At our bungalow we set down our bags and quickly got dressed in our bathing suits. We then ran straight into the water to cool off. Ahhhhh. Finally nice and cooled off. The beach was clean and fresh. Not a plastic bottle in sight, at least from where we were in the water. After a few minutes in the water we ordered food from the restaurant. Moni got mango salad and I got glass noodle salad. It was really spicy but very tasty. We also order rum and coke and a piƱa colada. Sooooo good. Finally on the beach relaxing with our drink in our hands. Nothing to do or think about we just sat and became beached whales. Once our drinks were finished we felt the need to continue since the day was still young. We put on some clothes and walked into the main town area where there was a convenience store with more rum and coke. Back to the beach we sat down with our new friend and made great memories. We drank half the bottle between us and just laughed and listened to music while trying to dance sitting on the bean bags next to the ocean. When we got the energy, we stubbled into the water and fell over each other laughing. And then we had the brilliant idea of taking the kayak out for a spin! So we hauled the beast out into the open water and brought our speaker to play music. Out in the ocean we sang our hearts out and started making songs as we watched the sun disappear behind the island and the sun turn the sky into a dark pink. This was a great time spent together, never have I been so day drunk... After a while of singing and swaying in the ocean, we beached the kayak and got dressed to try and find a good grub place to eat dinner. We walked into the main part of town and refused to even look at the beach front restaurants since we knew from experience if we ate there we would pay big money for basically nothing. Not to mention missing out of the culture aspect too. The town was very quiet, not many tourist or locals wandering about the street. Moni and I took a turn down a dark street in hopes of finding the perfect place. We walked into the darkness and saw Christmas lights in the distance. We almost turned around but then we found MECCA. This place was a boss ass place that served quality with love. There was chickens and dogs roaming the ground near us but only one lady ran this whole show. She had her woks heated on the fire and her chopping block ready. She was the boss, and her husband was running around taking orders. This was the place to be in this town. I ordered the noodle papaya salad and a cucumber tomato salad. Moni ordered green curry and we shared between the two of us. IT WAS SPICY. We weren't saying anything at first to each other, but then we looked up at our faces and laughed because I had sweat running down my face and Moni had bright red lips from the chiles. It was so damn good though we couldn't stop eating. We were going to get dessert, aka mango sticky rice, afterwards but we were so full and content that we decided to get it for breakfast tomorrow. With our bellies full and our mind at ease we walked home in the darkness.
