THAILAND - Koh Phayam - Part 2
The night was full of dogs barking and ocean waves crashing. For me I didn't have the best sleep but I was up for the sunrise in order to do some yoga. There was a lovely platform right on the beach perfect for the occasion. After a good hour session, Moni woke up and join me and we jumped in the water since it was already so frickin hot. Our plan for the day was to rent bicycles and bike to the north end of the island, and save the south for the other days. So down the street we got bikes from a resort and made our way to our favorite restaurant to have some mango sticky rice and eggs for breakfast. Mango sticky rice is the best breakfast item ever. After we fueled up we headed on our way to the only road leading to the north. Once the uphill started, we then realized that our bikes had no gears so going uphill was quite a feet in itself. Our gears kept giving out on us and the heat was unbearable. But we carried on in hopes of finding a nice beach. The road was nice and had its ups and downs. We were on the search for this famous bar called the Hippy Bar but we never found signs leading to it. At the end of the road it turned into dirt and a large up hill. We walked our bikes up to what seemed to be a narrow trail leading into the jungle. But then we had a steep down hill which led to a resort. We parked our bikes and went through the resort grounds straight to the beach and into the water. Finally cool and refreshed. After that long bike ride we decided to stay a while and gain our strength back before we had to ride back. We stayed here for about 3 hours. I swam out into the open ocean and did a few laps in the little bay. This resort had the whole beach to itself and you could walk over to the next little cove to find a secret little area. People were snorkling and kids were swimming naked in the shallows. We both laid in the hammock and then did some acro yoga. We found a cool tree that overhung over the beach and was a perfect sitting tree. We tanned a lot here on the beach, and every 30 minutes the tide would come up and go down so our feet would get a little wet. Before we left we got ourselves a cold coconut to gain some fuel for our back ride back. We finally got the guts to go back and the hill we came down was not doable on the bike. So we walked and I saw a horned toucan! It flew right over us and landed in the tree. SO COOL! Its beak was huge. Once at the top of the hill we stopped to rest. and we saw a trail leading into the jungle on our right. So we agreed to check it out. We were a little scared since we didn't bring mosquito spray but there wasn't any thank god. The trail was super easy and very pretty. The vines hanging from the tree were twisted and hanging effortlessly from 40 feet above. The sounds of birds echoed and the bugs buzzed to what seemed like white noise. About 10 minutes in we came to a spit in the trail and to the left was an abandoned house/hut. We walked up to it, and for some reason I was a little scared because it looked so creepy and it felt like it was the beginning to some horror movie. But we checked it out and it looked like some people lived here for a while. We continued on the trail that disappeared but led towards a cliff. We bushed whacked a little until we got to the edge and it was a vast view of the north end of coast of the island. No resorts. No people. Just jungle and water. Not many boats either. It was paradise. In the distance we saw 2 dolphins that resembled us. Moni tried to scale down the cliff to get to the water but it was too dangerous and it was making me nervous. So here we sat meditating and looking out into the Andaman Sea. I noticed on the tree that I was sitting next to the bark almost looked like an alien had encrypted messages onto it. There were weird viens that took the shape of squares and also formed beautiful patterns. All the trees on this tiny out-spurt cliff had this pattern on it. But in the jungle there weren't any patterns. After we sat a while we turned back to get our bikes. This was an awesome trail that was overgrown and no one knew about. Fun little adventure! We got back to the bikes and tried to find the Hippy Bar once again but I think we kept missing it. We saw a sign for jewlery making class and homemade yogurt so we followed a trail to a resort beach and sat on a wooden hammock to rest a bit. We found a hammock also made entirely out of trash! We wanted to eat at this restaurant but it was too expensive so we had to make it back to town in time for lunch since we were getting hungry. Back in town we went to the restaurant next to our favorite to try something new but it still wasn't nearly as good. After we went shopping at these cool artisan shops and went into some vegan bakeries. After shopping overload we went back to the bungalow to lay on the beach and tan and start drinking. After we walked to this bridge where we saw so much trash underneath it. There we brought trash bags and started cleaning. A little later these homeless 3 year old children who lived under the bridge approached us and were following us around. We taught them how to clean up the trash and separate plastic bottles from trash trash. They were so cute and it was amazing to teach them about their environment. At the end we knew the understood even though there was a language barrier. We told them to meet us the next day at the same time. At the bungalow we walked further down the beach to find a secret little area covered in trash. Someone had started a trash tree which was a piece of artwork! So we added to it and danced to music while rapping. The sun set into a hazy pink hue and we soon got hungry for dinner. Was a beautiful day well spent on the island.
