THAILAND - Travel to Chiang Mai
Was our last few hours on the island. We woke up again for one last yoga session and a swim in the beach. We swam on more time to the abandoned boat and this time brought the GoPro to document it. Island life was sweet to us. But I know I could not live like that forever. The mountains call me to mainland and I crave new scenery. We didn't have enough time to see our mamas restaurant one last time because we had to pack our bags and catch our boat ride to Ranong. One our walk through town we grabbed a nice cold mango shake in order to make it through the heat. We waved to the little kids living under the bridge, feeling a little sad since we could not take them with us. We were running a little late so we had to do a little jog to the pier. But something caught my eye walking by a restaurant on the beach. Sitting there was the two guys we stayed at the same bungalow on Koh Phayam! I didn't have time to stop and say hi but I had a strange feeling I would keep running into them. Walking through this heat made us delusional, but we finally reached our boat and climbed aboard to set our packs down. There was only one other old couple on the boat with us. We sat on the top and put our headphones in and let the breeze take us away. We snacked on nuts and mango and tried to stay busy with reading and such. Mid way through our hour long boat ride we got up to play in the wind and take some pictures together. Finally we arrived at the dock in Ranong. Here we were herded into a tuk tuk to be taken to the airport. We had to put our masks on to stop inhaling the fumes. The old couple on the boat with us started talking about the countries they traveled too and I was asking them a bunch of questions. They too were sick of island life after a while. They got dropped off at a hotel and we went on to the airport. When we arrive it looked very small and we didn't really understand how to check in. We were very hungry and thought there would be a restaurant there but all we found was a small connivence store with cup of noodle and ice cream. So that was dinner I guess. We laid out out mats in the corner and did some workouts and stretching. Then we started looking at our connecting flight in Bangkok and saw that we actually had different connecting flights. But we didn't worry to much because we would eventually meet up at the next hotel. We checked our bags and tried to ask the lady at the desk if we had to recheck our bags in Bangkok, but she didn't understand so we would just go with it and assumed we had too. Once we were through security, which took all of Moni's essential oils and toothpaste, we had to sit in a second waiting room that was playing a soap opera but in Thai. It was our only entertainment so we just watched. We were supposed to board a while ago but the plane wasn't ready, so we got a little worried. About an hour and a half went by and we finally got to leave, but Moni's connecting flight was going to be a tight one. We were trying to think what to do if she missed it while we flew to Bangkok. Once the plane landed, Moni only had about 30 minutes to get her bag, recheck it, go through security, and then get on the plane. No chance. But we ran anyway! Ironically I was supposed to arrive later than her but it was switched around. I went through security with a breeze and made it just in time for my plane. While I sat there I was messaging Moni on instagram to see what happened with her ticket. She ended up having to buy a new one that left at 6 the next morning. I felt bad for her and kept messaging her online before my flight left. Then right before I boarded she messaged me that she left her card in the ATM! I couldn't wait to hear her response but I would have to hear of it when I landed in Chiang Mai. My flight was alright and I slept most of the way while an old man was constantly leaning on me as he fell asleep. Once I landed I got all of Moni's messages and found out that she went to the the front desk and someone had returned the card! Great news. It was now 2 in the morning and I had one last leg of the journey to get to the hotel in the city. So I split a taxi with a young white haired girl and we talked a lot since the ride was long. I got dropped off first and she offered to pay the taxi since it was like $2 which was very nice of her. I told her that I would most likely see her again in the city if she was staying long. Which I did actually see her at a later hostel. I checked in the room and told them that my friend was coming in the morning and to just call me when she came so I could let her in. But at the front desk they were confused because we had booked them twice with two different websites. So they almost had me pay twice the amount which I refused and then they said we will figure it out in the morning. So I just went up to my room which was super nice and spacious. I went straight into the fridge to get a Chang beer because I deserved it. I did some yoga and got in the shower to relax some more. By this time it was 3 and I set my alarm for 7 so I could let Moni in. What a trip.
